Psychology
Constellations are born of our habit of seeing patterns in randomness. The dream may show the mind stitching scattered events into one story.
Folklore and history
Constellations were tied to myth in ancient Mesopotamia and Greece; today 88 are officially recognised. China and Japan had their own lunar mansions, and birth-sign astrology has long shaped daily life.

This site's view
In this site's view, it matters who drew the lines. Linking stars yourself: you can give your own meaning to events. Being taught an unknown figure: others may be writing your story. A shape falling apart asks you to revisit a trusted narrative.
Going deeper: our reading
Astronomers today officially recognise 88 constellations, yet different cultures have read the same patterns in completely different ways; the Big Dipper has been seen as a ladle, a bear's tail and a cart. The stars of one constellation only appear close from Earth, while their real distances vary widely. A constellation is, in the end, the meaning its viewer gives it. In this site's reading, the dream shows your mind knows that what an event means is up to you. Connecting unfamiliar stars and naming the shape suggests you are reshaping past experiences into a story of your own. Being taught constellations by someone shows a wish to borrow their view and see things afresh. This is our speculation, but failing to find a constellation you know well may be a sign that a familiar way of thinking no longer fits who you are now.
