Psychology
A grades dream can reflect fear of judgment or a wish for recognition. Feeling crushed by a report card shows you care too much about others' opinions; better-than-expected grades may be your mind telling you that you are stronger than you think.
Folklore and history
In Japan students pray for success at Tenmangu shrines, which enshrine the scholar Sugawara no Michizane as a god of learning; charms and votive plaques are a sign of exam season. Rising grades foretell rewarded effort; poor grades warn of complacency.
Attach an AirTag to your car keys, bag, or the car itself before exploring an unfamiliar ruin or mountain haunted spot, and you can check its location in the Find My app if you forget where you parked or lose track of a bag in the dark. Even deep in the mountains with poor reception, its location updates via nearby Apple devices — a safety and anti-loss measure for solo exploration.

This site's view
In this site's view, the real question is whom you wanted to show your grades to. A parent's face means they remain the one you long to please. Hiding the report may mean you grade yourself too harshly. Unreadable numbers may say it is time to leave others' yardsticks behind.
Going deeper: our reading
When tests are handed back, the classroom has a particular atmosphere. You are called by name, take your paper and check the score in the few steps back to your seat. Some compare with friends; others fold the paper away at once. The same score feels very different depending on whether you compare it. In this site's reading, showing your test or report card to someone suggests you are measuring your achievements against others. Relief at beating them points to a time when comparison keeps your confidence up. Feeling low at doing worse may mean you have entrusted your heart too much to other people's yardsticks. This is our speculation, but carefully reviewing your mistakes alone may show a sincere wish to grow, to learn where you stumbled rather than dwell on the grade. A paper returned with the score left blank means you are mid-challenge, not yet judged.

Turning a bad dream
In Japan, people once tried to turn a worrying dream for the better: a baku charm under the pillow, telling the dream to a nandina bush, or reciting an old dream-turning poem. Read the column on dream trading and dream-turning
