Psychology
A huge ship suggests a great force to carry you and hope for a wider world, yet size can also overwhelm. Whether it reassured or intimidated you shows how you feel about large organizations or goals. Standing on deck shows commitment; looking up from the pier, hesitation to board.
Folklore and history
Japanese says "as if aboard a great ship" for feeling secure. At New Year, a picture of the treasure ship carrying the Seven Lucky Gods is placed under the pillow for a good first dream. Stories like Noah's Ark cast great ships as vessels of salvation, and dream readers see growth and prosperity.
Driving to a haunted spot on a remote mountain road or old byway, a dead battery from leaving the lights on during a long stop can strand you somewhere it's hard to call for help. Keeping a set of booster cables in the car lets another vehicle jump-start yours.

This site's view
In this site's view, look at the ship's lights. Every window lit and lively means there is a place for you; huge but dark and empty suggests loneliness amid impressive titles. A big ship is also one you cannot leave alone. If you boarded without knowing the destination, check whether you traded the helm for comfort.
Going deeper: our reading
A large ship rides waves more steadily than a small one, but needs a long distance to turn or stop. After the helm is turned, the heading changes only slowly. In this site's reading, a huge ship dream holds the joy of gaining solid backing or stability, but can also carry a sense that inside something large you cannot manoeuvre as you wish. Recall your position relative to the ship. Aboard, you are becoming ready to entrust yourself to that great current. Watching from shore, you admire it while feeling the distance. Passing alongside in a small boat suggests you are aware of your smallness yet proud to hold your own helm. This is our speculation, but watching it slowly turn may mean things around you are beginning to change, however gradually.
What to do on waking
Look up one piece of information about a goal that felt too big. Check the destination yourself.
