Psychology
Light joining earth and sky suggests a mind seeking higher meaning. A single beam in the dark is intuition pointing to the answer; in Jungian terms, the pull toward the centre of the self drawn as a straight ray.
Folklore and history
In cold regions, ice crystals can turn lights into pillars reaching upward. Sunbeams through cloud gaps are called Jacob's ladder, after the biblical dream of a ladder to heaven. East and West alike saw such light as a path to the sky.
A simple slip-on spike that turns any shoe into a non-slip one for exploring a ruin or icy mountain road in winter. Less bulky than full crampons, this compact type is easy to carry, guarding against falls during a snow-season test-of-courage trip or ruin exploration.

This site's view
In this site's view, a pillar of light is a summons, but look carefully at who is calling. Warm light with people nearby is a goal or bond guiding you. Cold white light standing alone in an empty place may mean your wish to leave where you are has grown too strong. How heavy your steps felt matters too.
Going deeper: our reading
A spotlight from above lifts a performer out of a dark auditorium. Anyone who has stood under stage lights at a recital or ceremony may remember the glare hiding the audience, leaving them strangely alone in the light. In this site's reading, notice whether the pillar of light fell on you or stood somewhere apart. Light falling on you suggests a desire for attention rising together with nerves about being watched. Feeling at ease inside it shows you are ready to display your abilities in public. Wanting to flee the glare points to unease at the weight of expectations. This is our speculation, but when someone who usually supports others from the shadows is bathed in light in this dream, it may express an unspoken wish for their work to be recognised. Watching someone else in the light may reflect respect for them, or a touch of envy.
