Psychology
A power plant can stand for the place inside you that generates energy. The dream may be checking whether you have enough drive or are overusing it. Alarms at the plant may signal that your load is nearing its limit.
Folklore and history
Electricity reached everyday life only in the modern era, and power plants were hailed as the heart of civilisation. Yet huge, ever-lit facilities also inspire unease. Dream readers usually treat them as a source of vitality or talent.

This site's view
In this site's view, ask whom the power is for. If it only lights a distant city, you may be spending yourself on others. If your own home is lit, you are finally using energy for yourself.
Going deeper: our reading
Electricity is invisible and we rarely think about it. But in a blackout the fridge's low hum and the fan's whir suddenly stop, and the house falls startlingly quiet. Only then do we realise how much rests on unseen power. In this site's reading, people who dream of a power plant are relied on as a matter of course and quietly stay on guard, wondering what would happen if they stopped. The scene matters. Operating machines in a control room shows the tension of carrying sole responsibility. A plant turned by wind or water suggests a wish to draw strength from the flow rather than force it out. All the lights going dark may signal that body and mind need rest. This is our speculation, but feeling soothed by a steadily humming generator shows the heart confirming you still have enough strength.
What to do on waking

Turning a bad dream
In Japan, people once tried to turn a worrying dream for the better: a baku charm under the pillow, telling the dream to a nandina bush, or reciting an old dream-turning poem. Read the column on dream trading and dream-turning
