Psychology
Receiving something from a god suggests you are finally starting to recognize your own potential. The gift may stand for a power or role you truly want. Hesitating to take it may reveal fear of living up to expectations.
Folklore and history
In Japan a child is called sazukari-mono, something granted, reflecting the sense that precious things are entrusted from above. Shrine amulets are traditionally "received" rather than "bought". Gifts from deities in dreams are usually read as good omens.

This site's view
In this site's view, whether you still held the gift when you woke is key. Holding it to the end means you are ready to use the blessing. Dropping it or seeing it vanish means the chance exists but you are not yet ready. If you cannot recall what it was, it may be a bond with someone, not an object.
Going deeper: our reading
In a dream of receiving a gift from a god, what you received is an important clue. Something shining, like a mirror or jewel, suggests a time when you can reflect on yourself and regain inner clarity. A harvest, such as rice ears or fruit, may foretell steady effort returning to you in tangible form. A sword or staff may mean you are being trusted with resolve or a role guiding others. In this site's reading, the place matters too. Before a shrine hall, you may want to treasure what you inherited from tradition or family. At home, the blessing lies not in a special place but in your daily life itself. This is our speculation, but this dream may come to people who feel they have nothing. The gift may be the shape of strength you already have.
