Psychology
A room reflects the inner mind itself. Jung recounted a dream of a many-storeyed house and read its floors as layers of the psyche. A messy room suggests feelings not yet sorted; an unknown room, discovering a side of yourself.
Folklore and history
Old Japanese mansions sometimes hold tales of a room never to be opened, and in the folk tale of the forbidden chamber, opening it ends the hero's happiness. Rooms have long been where people hide what they keep secret.

This site's view
In this site's view, whether you opened the door reveals your state. Entering a strange room means readiness to accept a new side; turning back suggests a memory you are not ready to touch. A replica of your old bedroom means you want to revisit that time's feelings.
Going deeper: our reading
In room dreams, the light and the arrangement of furniture reflect your state of mind. A dark room with the curtains drawn suggests a time when you want to shut out stimulation and protect yourself. A bright room flooded with sunlight shows room to welcome new things. In this site's reading, your familiar room with the furniture moved around is a sign that your values or priorities are shifting without your noticing. Being in a hotel or inn room may reflect a feeling that your current place is only temporary, a feeling that grows when changing jobs, moving or starting new relationships. A room that slowly shrinks expresses the suffocation of losing time and inner space. This is our speculation, but many people want to rearrange their actual room after such a dream, a natural urge to begin the rearrangement of the heart in a visible form.
