Psychology
Being touched by a ghost can be read as feeling an unseen influence on your skin. Dream touch often blends real sensations such as bedding weight, numb limbs or room temperature, yet may also reflect a sense of being moved by something you cannot see.
Folklore and history
Japanese ghost tales abound with cold hands gripping ankles or stroking hair in sleep. Yet many people also recall a late relative holding their hand or rubbing their back in a dream; touch can terrify or comfort.

This site's view
In this site's view, notice where you were touched. Shoulders or back: you want a push, or feel pushed too hard. Hands: a longing for connection. Ankles: something holding you back. Warmth or cold tells whether you welcome that influence.
Going deeper: our reading
In Japan, the experience of being awake yet unable to move, sensing someone nearby or a weight on the chest, has long been called kanashibari. It is explained as sleep paralysis, when awareness wakes before the body during the sleep stage richest in dreams. It is said to come more with fatigue and lack of sleep. In this site's reading, people who dream of a ghost's touch are often so tired that body and mind are out of step and badly need rest. Having your hand held during paralysis suggests a strong longing for support. Being gently stroked on the head hints at wanting recognition from someone lost or far away. This is our speculation, but drifting calmly back to sleep means that presence is not frightening. If it keeps recurring and disturbs your sleep, consult a doctor.
What to do on waking
Rub or warm the spot where you felt the touch. If chills or numbness persist, check your bedding and sleeping position.
