[Episode 2] The Suspension Bridge (Part 1) — [Viewer Discretion Advised] A Woman’s Voice. Whatever You Do, Don’t Look Back. Infiltrating Japan’s Most Dangerous Suspension Bridge
Watch on YouTube ↗Part 1 of Episode 2, “In Search of Kindness.” The crew investigates the suspension bridge over Lake Chichibu in Chichibu, Saitama.
The bridge’s reputation is tied to settlements said to have been submerged when Futase Dam was built. However, we have found no primary source confirming how many households were involved. Its appearance as a location in a well-known ghost-story program also helped spread the rumors.
In this part, a sound resembling a woman’s voice is reported. This is entertainment with staged elements and we do not guarantee its accuracy, but please watch it as a record of what sounds a swaying bridge can pick up. Rumors of suicide are also told about this place; our policy is to avoid describing methods.
What to Watch For
Listen to the sounds recorded on an unstable footing. On a bridge, wind, echoes off the water and creaking metal can increase in ways you would not notice on the ground. Try listening to the reported “woman’s voice” with those ambient sounds in mind.
Our Take
In our view, the phrase “never look back” leaves such a strong impression because a suspension bridge is a one-way path where you can only go forward. A structure that offers only two choices, turning back or pressing on, heightens awareness of what is behind you. This is speculation, but ghost stories tend to grow from the psychological pressure that a place’s shape creates. If you are struggling, please do not carry it alone.
