[Episode 13: Meet Me in the Dark] The Sekiguchi Residence. [Trailer]
Watch on YouTube ↗This is the trailer for Episode 13, “A Rendezvous in the Dark.” It covers the abandoned house “Sekiguchi Residence,” said to remain in Sugito, Kitakatsushika District, Saitama Prefecture.
The Sekiguchi Residence is said to be a house where an elderly couple once lived, and burn marks and security bars have been confirmed on site. When it is told as a haunted spot, a specific tragedy is often attached, but we have found no public record or news report, so the incident’s existence cannot be confirmed.
The trailer introduces the investigation of this ruin. The main episode has two parts. Because neighbors have said that “visitors keep coming and it is a nuisance,” we withhold the detailed location and do not recommend visiting.
What to Watch For
This episode is handled with the location withheld. Because neighbors say visitors keep coming and are a nuisance, we only give the location at town level. Please do not try to find the place from the footage.
Our Take
Sugito flourished in the Edo period as Sugito-juku, a post town on the Nikkō and Ōshū highways. An 1843 survey counted 365 houses in the post town, and the old town layout was little affected by urbanization, with many old houses surviving. That so many houses have lasted here seems to tie into the weight of the word “residence” as a stage for rumor. This is speculation, but the drop of a house that was long a place of daily life becoming a burned ruin may have made people seek a story.
