Psychology
Being chased by a devil reflects guilt or unwanted desire closing in from behind. Threat-simulation theory sees chase dreams as rehearsal for danger, but when the pursuer is a devil, the threat may feel like it comes from within.
Folklore and history
In Christian lore the devil more often lures through weakness than seizes by force. Dream readers usually treat being chased by one as a sign that stress or social pressure is near its limit, judging by whether you escape.
Drinks and food left in the car warm up fast during a summer car-camping exploration, so an ice pack in a cooler bag helps. This standard model claims about 8 times the cooling power of an ordinary ice pack, and freezes quickly enough to prep the night before.

This site's view
In this site's view, notice whether the devil ran or walked. A sprinting pursuer means an urgent problem to settle now. One that walked slowly yet never fell behind is a lingering regret that will not vanish; that kind may corner a person over many years.
Going deeper: our reading
In a dream of being chased by a devil, its appearance is a clue. A picture-book devil with horns and wings may be vague guilt or anxiety taking an easy-to-read shape. If it wore a familiar face, you may feel forced into something within that relationship. A shapeless black shadow suggests a fear you cannot yet name. In this site's reading, whether it spoke to you also matters. If it called your name or made demands, there may be a request or invitation you cannot bring yourself to refuse in real life. If it chased you silently, the focus is less on others' demands than on restlessness rising from within. This is our speculation, but this dream may come most to people who cannot say no even when they want to. On waking, practise turning down one small thing.

Turning a bad dream
In Japan, people once tried to turn a worrying dream for the better: a baku charm under the pillow, telling the dream to a nandina bush, or reciting an old dream-turning poem. Read the column on dream trading and dream-turning
