▲ Leans unlucky (a warning) Traditionally a warning — read it as pointing to what to watch, not as doom
Small worries and irritations are piling up. The worse the swelling, the bigger your frustration with people.

Psychology
A bite is small, yet the itch lingers. The dream mirrors irritations that are minor alone but wear you down through repetition. From the continuity view, daytime stress may simply be carried into sleep.
Folklore and history
Japanese has many phrases likening moods and anger to insects inside the body, as if irritation were the work of a small creature apart from yourself. Dream readers take insect stings as a warning of friction or minor trouble.
Building-type haunted spots like ruins, abandoned schools, and aging tunnels carry a risk of injury from falling ceiling material or beams. A helmet certified by Japan's Ministry of Health, Labour and Welfare protects your head from that kind of falling debris.

This site's view
In this site's view, what matters is whether you scratched afterward. Scratching until it spread hints you tend to enlarge small grievances. If it faded on its own, your worry is the kind time will solve. Seeing the insect that stung you shows whether you know the cause.
Going deeper: our reading
Mosquitoes, bees, black flies: stinging and biting insects vary, and how the swelling and itching appear differs with the insect and the person. In this site's reading, people who dream of being stung by an insect often carry words or events they shrugged off at the time but that bother them more and more later. The pain that sets in afterwards occupies the heart longer than the sting itself. If you did not notice being stung and were surprised by swelling later, you may be realising only now that you were hurt. Being stung despite wearing repellent may show weariness at friction with people that no amount of care can prevent. This is our speculation, but if someone applied ointment to the sting, it may express relief that someone near you notices even your small pains.
What to do on waking
Write down one small grievance and decide whether to fix it or let it go. Many can be left alone without scratching.

Turning a bad dream
In Japan, people once tried to turn a worrying dream for the better: a baku charm under the pillow, telling the dream to a nandina bush, or reciting an old dream-turning poem. Read the column on dream trading and dream-turning
Exploring a ruin or mountain haunted spot often means bringing home mud- or water-stained boots, rain gear, or used wet wipes. A foldable, highly waterproof EVA bucket lets you bundle all the dirty items together, then rinse it out and fold it flat afterward.
