Psychology
Giant patterns in fields symbolise messages that seem meaningful yet cannot be decoded. The dream can reflect receiving signs from others or your own intuition without grasping their meaning. People tend to find meaning even in chance shapes, and that tendency may be strongly at work in the dream.
Folklore and history
Crop circles appeared one after another in English wheat fields in the 1970s and 80s, sparking talk of aliens. In the early 1990s two English men came forward saying they had made them with boards and similar tools. Still the patterns grew more intricate, and the mystery keeps its pull.
Driving to a haunted spot on a remote mountain road or old byway, a dead battery from leaving the lights on during a long stop can strand you somewhere it's hard to call for help. Keeping a set of booster cables in the car lets another vehicle jump-start yours.

This site's view
In this site's view, whether you saw it from above or stood inside changes the meaning. Looking down on the whole means your objectivity is returning; standing within, unable to see the pattern, means you are simply too close — the answer is already drawn.
Going deeper: our reading
Crop circles appear in fields farmers have worked hard to grow. To visitors they are mysterious patterns; to the owner they are flattened crops. Made overnight, they turn a familiar field into something else by morning, and that shock of an everyday place changing in a single night may be the heart of their eeriness and appeal. In this site's reading, a crop-circle dream tends to come when sudden change touches your surroundings, or when you sense it coming. A pattern in your own garden or a nearby field points to unexpected change at home or work. Secretly making a pattern yourself at night suggests a wish to surprise people or to be noticed. This is our speculation, but if the pattern struck you as beautiful rather than frightening, you may already be ready to accept the change. You can trust that sense of beauty even without knowing the meaning.
