Psychology
A kokkuri-san dream can reflect a wish to avoid deciding and hand the answer to something outside you. The coin that seems to move on its own is thought to be driven by unconscious muscle movements; the dream may show the same wish not to admit you are the one moving it.
Folklore and history
One theory holds that kokkuri-san spread in the Meiji era from Western spirit-summoning games; it is also written with characters for fox, dog and raccoon dog. Meiji philosopher Inoue Enryo studied it and argued it could be explained by the mind rather than spirits. It later swept Showa-era schools, along with rumours of curses if ended wrongly.

This site's view
In this site's view, what you asked is the key. Asking about love or your future is an escape from the weight of choosing. If the coin moved to neither yes nor no, your true answer lies outside the given options. Being unable to stop warns of a habit you cannot let go.
Going deeper: our reading
Kokkuri-san was never played alone; several people rested a finger on the coin together. Many remember watching it slide in an after-school classroom. Half-suspecting someone was pushing, yet swept up in the mood, everyone almost believed the same thing. In this site's reading, the dream also asks about responsibility for what a group decides. If the faces with fingers on the coin were your coworkers or friends, it may be time to ask whether you're being carried along to a conclusion you don't truly accept. If you alone quietly lifted your finger, you may want to step back and see things coolly. This is our speculation, but a coin moving on its own that no one could stop may show your heart worrying about a situation that has grown so big that no one dares say "let's stop."
