Psychology
Dreams of a dead body point to events already over, or feelings you should release but still carry. Hiding the body suggests denial or guilt; gazing at it suggests a mind trying to accept an ending.
Folklore and history
Surprisingly, dream lore often reads a corpse as lucky, a sign of wealth: what has ended turns into fruit. Buddhism also has a tradition of contemplating death to grasp impermanence, as in the kusozu paintings showing a body's stages of decay.

This site's view
In this site's view, ask whether you recognised the body. A stranger is a shapeless worry or past event. Someone you know means part of that relationship is changing. A body wearing your clothes may quietly say you can finally face the old self whose role is done.
Going deeper: our reading
In nature, a body is slowly broken down by insects and microbes until it becomes nourishment for new plants. That cycle echoes the old reading of dead-body dreams as lucky. In this site's reading, where the body lay shows where the matter sits in your heart. Inside your home points to a family or close-relationship issue that is over but never cleared away. A body floating in a river or by water suggests feelings you want to wash away are rising to the surface. Burying it in soil shows the strength to lay a painful event to rest and turn it into a future harvest. A body suddenly moving may signal that something you thought was finished is not yet settled. This is our speculation, but for fans of mystery novels or horror films, the dream may simply reuse remembered material and need not be taken too seriously.
What to do on waking
If a past event still weighs on you, write it in one line and close the notebook. Look, then close: that alone creates a sense of closure.

Exploring a ruin or mountain haunted spot often means bringing home mud- or water-stained boots, rain gear, or used wet wipes. A foldable, highly waterproof EVA bucket lets you bundle all the dirty items together, then rinse it out and fold it flat afterward.
