Psychology
When the falling petals stay with you rather than the bloom, part of you may already sense a change or parting. It often comes before graduation, a transfer or an ending. Watching the petals or standing in them shows how close the change feels.
Folklore and history
In Japan the scattering of cherry petals has long stood in poetry and theater for both fragility and graceful acceptance. Yet the same culture calls it a blossom blizzard and uses it to celebrate, sending endings off brightly.

This site's view
In this site's view, notice where you watched from. Standing beneath the tree in a shower of petals means you are inside the change and your feelings have not caught up. Watching from a distance means you can take the ending with some calm. If you saw the tree turn green after the petals were gone, the everyday life beyond this chapter is already beginning.
Going deeper: our reading
Somei-Yoshino, the most widely planted cherry in Japan, has been propagated by grafting, so in any one area the trees bloom and fall at nearly the same time. And in Japan that falling coincides with April starts: new schools, new jobs, transfers. In this site's reading, the dream may come from feeling you must hurry on before you have had time to grieve what is ending. Who was with you changes it. Watching beside friends or family suggests you are closing a season with them too. Being alone may reflect fear of being left behind while others move into new lives. This is our speculation, but if you saw petals gathering into rafts on a river, it may express hope that what you part with will stay connected in another form.

Driving to a haunted spot on a remote mountain road or old byway, a dead battery from leaving the lights on during a long stop can strand you somewhere it's hard to call for help. Keeping a set of booster cables in the car lets another vehicle jump-start yours.
