Psychology
Fishing pulls something up from beneath the surface. In Jungian terms water is the unconscious and fish are ideas or feelings; the dream shows you reaching for something within. How long you waited mirrors your patience.
Folklore and history
Ebisu, one of the Seven Lucky Gods, holds a rod and a sea bream as a god of trade and good catches. Anglers are called taikobo after an old Chinese tale of a fisherman discovered by a wise ruler.
Haunted-spot exploration often means secluded places and nighttime, so a personal alarm to alert others in an emergency is worth carrying. Shaped like a tassel charm, it looks natural on a keychain or bag rather than an obvious "safety device," making it easy to carry when exploring alone.

This site's view
In this site's view, what you did with the catch matters more than the catch. Releasing it means you enjoy the challenge; keeping it, you want results. A strange non-fish catch may be a forgotten memory surfacing.
Going deeper: our reading
In fishing, much of the time is spent simply watching the water until a fish bites, and many anglers say even fishless hours, with wind and glittering water, are precious time to empty the mind. In this site's reading, how you spent the wait shows how much room your heart has. Lazily enjoying the scenery with your line in the water suggests a growing calm that can wait without rushing. Fidgeting and lifting the rod again and again may reflect impatience for results. This is our speculation, but fishing beside someone may express a wish for a companion who can share time without words. Whether you fished a river or the sea also matters: a flowing river suggests seizing chances amid change, while the wide sea points to large possibilities not yet taking shape.
What to do on waking
Think of one thing you keep at without expecting quick results, and spend five minutes tending it today. Only a line left in the water can catch the big one.
