Psychology
A graduation dream can mirror both achievement and the sadness of leaving a familiar place. It often comes when the mind is processing other endings, a job or relationship. Receiving the diploma shows you accept the ending; not receiving it shows something unfinished.
Folklore and history
Japanese graduations fall in cherry-blossom season, celebrating farewell and new beginnings at once; one song often sung there sets Japanese words to a Scottish folk tune. Graduation is read as a lucky sign that one stage is complete and you are ready for the next.

This site's view
In this site's view, read it by whom you said goodbye to. Laughing and crying with friends means those bonds will last in a new form. Walking out the gate alone may mean you have already made a quiet decision. Graduating again from an old school may be finishing a farewell you left undone.
Going deeper: our reading
On graduation day, classrooms and corridors suddenly look special. Perhaps only when we realise a familiar view will never return in the same form do we truly look at it. In this site's reading, what you looked at last shows what your heart is letting go of and what it is taking along. Gazing fondly at the blackboard or desks suggests you are slowly accepting farewell to a familiar routine. Looking only at the scene beyond the school gate suggests expectation for the next place has already grown larger. This is our speculation, but graduating again from a school you left long ago may be the mind confirming you have completed some role. Failing to arrive in time for the ceremony may mean you want closure but your heart is not yet ready.
What to do on waking
