A spirit said to answer any question once summoned: impatience for answers and its hidden risk.

Psychology
A being that answers anything reflects a wish to have your doubts solved from outside. A voice drawing nearer by phone matches how anxiety rises as answers approach. The rule against turning around may express avoiding a truth you do not want to see.
Folklore and history
Satoru-kun spread with the internet and mobile phones. You call your own cell phone from a pay phone; he calls back again and again, getting closer, until he stands behind you and answers any question. Turn around, or fail to ask anything, and he is said to take you away.
A headlamp that frees both hands while exploring a dark ruin, tunnel, or mountain haunted spot, so you can watch your footing and still handle a camera or notes.

This site's view
In this site's view, Satoru-kun foresaw the anxiety of an age where everything is searchable. If you asked a question, check whether you rush for answers. If none came to mind, you may need the time of not knowing. Turning toward the presence behind you shows a strong urge to confirm conclusions early.
Going deeper: our reading
The public payphone at the heart of the Satoru-kun tale has become a rare sight on street corners. Simply standing at one in a dream may bring back an earlier self, and the unease of a time when you could not reach people easily. In this site's reading, the calls that keep coming closer mirror how long it feels to wait for a reply. If your days are spent checking whether a message has been read or a result has arrived, that restlessness may have taken the shape of a voice announcing where it is. If the voice named your home or workplace, part of you senses the answer is already near; a distant station or school suggests it will take time. This is our speculation, but hanging up means the fear of knowing has edged ahead of the wish to know. Both are natural.
