Psychology
Gazing at a sky full of stars mirrors a sudden widening of perspective. Feeling small but unafraid shows tension easing; feeling overwhelmed may reflect too many options and trouble choosing.
Folklore and history
People long read the stars to know seasons and directions, timing planting and guiding voyages. A full starry sky was a map against getting lost. Dream readers generally treat a clear starry sky as a sign of hope and a bright outlook.

This site's view
In this site's view, who you watched with is the key. Alone, you need quiet time turned inward. Beside someone, you wish to face the same direction as them. If a departed person felt near, you may have been searching the countless lights for them.
Going deeper: our reading
Much of the starlight we see is said to have travelled years, centuries or longer to reach Earth; the glitter overhead is light journeying from the distant past. In this site's reading, a sky full of stars not only widens your view beyond present worries but places you back within a vast flow of time. Lying on your back gazing up suggests you are resting in the comfort of leaning on something greater. Seeing the Milky Way reflects a wish to feel connected to people far away or no longer seen. Spotting a shooting star and making a wish shows a hope has clearly grown inside you; if you remember the wish, it is your true feeling. This is our speculation, but the dream may come when you want to see today's failures as small against the long span of time.
What to do on waking
Tonight, dim the lights and look up for a few minutes, stars or not, to recall the wide view the dream gave you.
