Hope grown hard to see, or dark feelings deep inside; a time to face your shadow before deep change.

Psychology
The sun, source of light and life, turning black reflects the source of your drive or hope being temporarily dimmed. It may mirror how lasting fatigue or low mood darkens even bright things. Yet if the black sun felt mysterious or beautiful, a deep change may be underway beneath awareness.
Folklore and history
Western alchemical imagery includes a "black sun" marking the stage where matter darkens and decays before being reborn, a motif later taken up in Jungian psychology. The eclipsed sun was feared across the world as an omen. Dream readers see a black sun as trial leading to renewal.

This site's view
In this site's view, how the world looked under the black sun matters. If color and sound drained away, your heart is asking hard for rest. If the scene looked strangely sharp, an eye for truths hidden by brightness may be opening. The dream seems to say some light is visible only in shadow.
Going deeper: our reading
During a total solar eclipse the moon covers the sun, leaving a black disc ringed by white light in the daytime sky. It was once feared as an ill omen. In this site's reading, whether a ring of light shone around the black sun matters. A faint glow at its edge suggests that, though hope seems hidden, the light itself is not lost. A sun black to the rim may show a heart in deep fatigue, unable to imagine recovery. Watching with others hints at companions who can share a dark time; watching alone in fear suggests you have confided your low mood to no one. If light gradually returned, your heart already knows this darkness is temporary. This is our speculation, but the dream may come when you begin accepting dark feelings rather than denying them. If low moods persist, please consult a doctor or someone close.
What to do on waking
Do not force cheerfulness today; rest when you can. If low mood lasts for weeks, talk to someone close or a medical professional.
