Psychology
A student ID dream reflects where you belong and who you are. Losing it shows unease about a changing role; a photo that is not your face suggests a gap between who you are and who you meant to be.
Folklore and history
Tokens of identity have long marked where a person belongs. Dream lore reads losing an ID as a time of changing status or self-reflection, and getting a new one as the eve of a new role.
Driving to a haunted spot while running your phone's GPS, flashlight app, and camera drains the battery fast, and running out on site is dangerous. A dual-port car charger keeps two phones charged up en route.

This site's view
In this site's view, check the age in the photo. Your current face means a wish to learn again; a younger face shows you still shelter behind an old title. A stranger's face may be a quiet warning that fitting in has blurred your outline.
Going deeper: our reading
A student ID was more than a label. It was a key to the library and campus buildings, and a small privilege that got you discounted tickets. In this site's reading, the dream reflects both fear of losing the pass that lets you through and readiness to let it go. If you showed the card at a gate and were still refused, you may feel that titles and experience that once worked count for nothing in a new place. If you asked for a student discount and met a doubtful look, you may be questioning whether you act your age or position. Noticing the card had expired suggests your heart is finally accepting that a sheltered time of learning is over. This is our speculation, but people without a title yet in a new job may see this dream often.
