Psychology
Television can stand for incoming information or watching others' lives through glass. Seeing yourself on screen suggests concern with how others see you; merely watching, a sense of not taking part. Pre-sleep viewing often slips into dreams.
Folklore and history
The 1990s film Ring, with its cursed tape and a spirit crawling from the screen, carried Japanese horror worldwide. In the Showa era the TV sat at the heart of the family room — family comfort and a doorway to fear.

This site's view
In this site's view, ask whether you could change the channel. A dead remote means you cannot escape others' agendas; static means a mind craving quiet; someone looking back from the screen means tension about being watched.
Going deeper: our reading
There was a time when a home had just one television. Many people remember squabbling over the channel, laughing together at the same show. Today each person watches what they like on their own screen, and families gathered around the set have become rarer. In this site's reading, television dreams sometimes carry nostalgia for those hours when everyone watched the same thing. An old set from your childhood home may express a wish to feel that household atmosphere once more. This is our speculation, but watching alone with no one beside you can reflect loneliness at having nobody to share things with. A television that switches itself back on is a familiar ghost-story scene, but in dreams we read it as worries you are trying not to think about popping back into your mind at odd moments.
What to do on waking
Turn off screens an hour before bed tonight. Less input tends to mean quieter dreams.
