Goddess of love and beauty: rising charm and romance.
Category: World mythology (how to read this category)
Psychology
The goddess of love and beauty may reflect a wish to be loved and to accept your own charm. Her smile suggests openness to love; feeling outshone may reveal worry about looks or others' judgment.
Folklore and history
Aphrodite, born from sea foam, is the goddess of love and beauty. When Paris awarded her the golden apple "for the fairest", the choice set the Trojan War in motion. The Romans called her Venus, and she is mother of Eros.

This site's view
In this site's view, Aphrodite brings both love's blessing and the danger of being chosen — the golden apple contest sparked a war. A serene goddess means your charm draws people naturally; being compared means your true beauty shines once you step off the comparison stage.
Going deeper: our reading
Botticelli's The Birth of Venus, showing the goddess carried ashore on a shell, remains the best-known image of the goddess of love and beauty. The Roman poet Ovid also tells of Pygmalion, a sculptor who fell in love with the ivory woman he had carved, and of how the goddess granted his prayer and brought the statue to life. In this site's reading, people who dream of Aphrodite often lack confidence in their own appeal and are asking whether they deserve to be loved. Seeing her on the shore reflects a wish to be reborn as a new self. If she breathed life into a statue or painting, a dream, work or relationship you have nurtured is about to take shape. This is our speculation, but seeing your own face in her mirror means it is time to judge your beauty by your own eyes.
