Psychology
An electric shock may mirror sudden news, surprise, or the spark of insight when ideas connect. It can also show fear of touching something forbidden or bracing for a shock in relationships.
Folklore and history
Lightning was seen as the thunder god's power, and people chanted "kuwabara, kuwabara" for protection, said to derive from a place linked to Sugawara no Michizane. Dream lore reads a shock as a sudden encounter or turning point.
Exploring a ruin in the rain, or a flooded underground facility or cave-type spot, calls for a way to keep your phone and small items dry. Rated to JIS IPX8 (about 30 minutes at 10m depth), this two-pocket case holds your phone alongside small items like keys and cash.

This site's view
In this site's view, notice what remained after the jolt. Only pain or fear means your nerves are strained; a clear head afterwards may be the dream's way of showing old thinking burned out and a new circuit connecting.
Going deeper: our reading
On dry winter days, almost everyone has felt a snap of static from a doorknob or car door and pulled back. After one sting, you brace yourself the next time. Japanese also likens love at first sight to electricity, saying it went "bibitto." In this site's reading, what you touched changes the dream. A doorknob or handle suggests slight hesitation about entering a new place or relationship. A jolt when your hand brushed someone's may reflect strong attraction, or longing for a moving encounter. A shock from an appliance or socket may mirror everyday frustration when familiar tools and systems don't work as they should. This is our speculation, but people who keep others at a distance after being hurt once may dream again and again of small shocks like static.
