Psychology
Flowers are effort and time made visible. A flower dream may reflect a wish to have your worth recognized, or a fullness you already have. Receiving a bouquet points to hopes of praise; growing flowers yourself, pride in what you raised. Buds that never open suggest talents or feelings still waiting for their moment.
Folklore and history
Japanese flower viewing is said to have centered on plum blossoms in the Nara period and cherry blossoms later. Flowers are offered at altars and graves as words for the dead. Potted plants are avoided as sickbed gifts because "taking root" sounds like "staying bedridden". Floriography spread from 19th-century Europe. Blooming flowers are lucky; wilting ones signal low energy.
Ruins and haunted spots are full of things you'd rather not touch directly — dust, mold, dead pests, filth. A pair of nitrile gloves lets you check a door handle or something on the floor without direct contact, helping prevent infection or skin trouble.

This site's view
In this site's view, notice whether the flowers were cut. Flowers rooted in soil are things still growing in you. Cut flowers in a vase are lovely but limited in time — perhaps a relationship or season you cherish while knowing it will end. We offer flowers because we know all things fade. The dream flower shows what you most dread losing.
Going deeper: our reading
The impression a flower makes depends on its colour and scent, not only its shape. In Japan white flowers are often used at funerals, while red ones suggest celebration or passion. Many people also know how a passing scent can bring back an old memory vividly; smell is said to be closely tied to memory. In this site's reading, if you smelled the flowers in your dream, they may be calling up someone or something precious from the past rather than a present wish. White flowers suggest quietly letting something go; bright red or yellow ones hint at warmth or joy wanting to come out. A flower blooming somewhere unexpected, may show your good qualities growing even in harsh conditions. This is our speculation, but picking flowers suggests a growing wish to reach someone with your feelings.
