Psychology
A giant turtle stands for steady stability and things built over time. In Jungian terms it may be an archetype of ancient wisdom or earth-like support. If it towered over you, you may long to be held by something larger than yourself.
Folklore and history
Some Indian cosmologies and Native American myths tell of a turtle bearing the world or of land forming on its back. In East Asia the turtle, paired with a snake, is the Black Tortoise guarding the north. So a giant turtle is read as a world-bearing, lucky presence.

This site's view
In this site's view, a giant turtle's shell must bear scars from long years. If you noticed them, the dream may be telling you that the foundation you rely on has silently carried much hardship. It may be time to move from being supported to thanking your supporters.
Going deeper: our reading
Large tortoises walk very slowly, grazing and basking through the day. Their sense of time is nothing like that of humans used to hurrying. In this site's reading, people who dream of a giant turtle may be struggling because their own pace does not match the pace around them: work that demands instant replies, fear of being left behind if they stop. The heart may borrow the form of a creature that never rushes to say, your pace is fine. Walking alongside it suggests you are regaining a slow stride that suits you. Following a great sea turtle through the ocean suggests a guide nearby who can keep you on course through a long journey. This is our speculation, but if it slept without moving, now is a time to settle and gather strength rather than advance.
What to do on waking
Write down three habits, places or people that support you. Simply noticing the ground beneath you steadies the mind.
