Psychology
A parrot repeating speech can stand for words that are not your own — echoing others' views, or your words spreading beyond you. What the parrot said may be the very phrase stuck in your mind.
Folklore and history
In Japanese, "parrot reply" means echoing without thought. Yet parrots were prized across the world for colour and speech, even given to royalty. The bird carries both cleverness and shallowness.

This site's view
In this site's view, it asks where your words come from. Parrots speak without meaning. Were your recent words truly yours? Panic as a parrot blurts your secret suggests fear that something you told will spread.
Going deeper: our reading
Some large parrots live for decades and are said to sometimes outlive their owners. So a parrot may, years later, suddenly repeat a family member's catchphrase or laugh, or the call of someone no longer alive, startling the household. In this site's reading, a parrot dream can reflect not only a warning about borrowed words but a half-forgotten voice returning in an unexpected form. A parrot speaking in the manner of someone dear suggests the words or lessons that person gave you are needed now. Finding its words meaningless and eerie may show that something someone once said still nags at you. Being embarrassed as it mimicked your own habit may prompt you to notice the words you leave with others. This is our speculation, but the dream seems to say words live on in someone even after the speaker is gone.

Turning a bad dream
In Japan, people once tried to turn a worrying dream for the better: a baku charm under the pillow, telling the dream to a nandina bush, or reciting an old dream-turning poem. Read the column on dream trading and dream-turning
