Psychology
Public bath or sauna dreams can show body and mind asking to wash away built-up fatigue. Sharing the water naked suggests a wish to drop titles and pretence. Water too hot to bear may mean you seek rest while your surroundings still strain you.
Folklore and history
Since the Edo period, public baths were places where townspeople chatted as they soaked, many with a painting of Mount Fuji on the wall. Saunas come from Finnish steam-bath tradition. Clear water means recovery; murky water points to fatigue or tangled relationships.

This site's view
In this site's view, the key is the stranger beside you. Sharing the water in silence means your ease with others is returning. Hiding from someone's gaze means showing your true self still frightens you. A faceless figure in the steam may be someone you long to confide in.
Going deeper: our reading
A public bath follows an order: pay at the counter, put your shoes in the rack, undress in the changing area. In this site's reading, where you were in that order shows how ready your heart is. Hesitating at the entrance curtain suggests you are still wary of opening up; fumbling in the changing room means you are midway through shedding titles and pride; holding a cold drink afterwards may foretaste the contentment once something is settled. Sauna lovers now talk of repeating heat, cold plunge and rest until they feel 'tuned', so moving between hot and cold may show your body asking to switch between tension and release. This is our speculation, but as neighbourhood baths disappear, dreaming of an old one may mean missing a place to sit unpretentiously beside strangers.
What to do on waking
Take a proper soak in the bath tonight instead of a quick shower, or visit a local public bath this weekend.
