Psychology
A ruby can be read as passion and vitality burning inside you. Red in dreams often stands for love, anger or the urge to act. It may come when your heart feels it is time to move.
Folklore and history
Ruby is the red form of corundum; the same mineral in other colours is sapphire. July's birthstone, it was long praised as a king of gems and believed to shield its wearer from harm. Dream lore links it to rising love and drive.

This site's view
In this site's view, did the red look like fire or blood? Bright flame means drive is full. Dark, blood-like red hints fear of being hurt, or a love grown too intense, beneath the passion. The same red can warm or scorch.
Going deeper: our reading
A ruby's red comes from traces of chromium, which is why the stone can glow red from within under ultraviolet light. The finest shade is called pigeon's blood, and stones from Myanmar are especially prized. The fortieth wedding anniversary is the ruby anniversary, honouring a passion that has burned for decades. In this site's reading, people who dream of rubies often keep a passion burning deep inside that they do not show. A ruby glowing red in the dark reflects a drive that stays alive even when no one is watching. Gazing at the stone with a long-time partner means a bond built over years is taking on new brilliance. This is our speculation, but a stone that glows in darkness may say that hard times reveal whether your passion is real.
What to do on waking
Take just the first step on a challenge you have been putting off. Wearing something red may give you a push.
