Psychology
A shop-clerk dream reflects the role of accommodating others and the fatigue of a required smile. Psychology calls managing your feelings for work emotional labour, known to drain people. If you were the customer, you may be seeking someone's help.
Folklore and history
Japanese merchants widely honour Ebisu or Inari for thriving business, and care for guests is prized as omotenashi. Working busily as a clerk means good social luck; being scolded by a customer means you worry too much about others' judgement.

This site's view
In this site's view, the truth shows after closing time. Relief once the shutter was down means you switch off well. Customers who never stopped coming mean you have lost any time off from serving others. And who, lately, has been looking after you?
Going deeper: our reading
A shop clerk's job includes much customers never see: restocking, tidying shelves, checking inventory, closing the till. Guiding a customer to an item instantly comes from walking the aisles every day. In this site's reading, failing to answer when asked where something was suggests anxiety about not yet grasping your role, or confusion over a task suddenly handed to you. A long queue at the register points to pressure to meet expectations quickly. Quietly straightening shelves in an empty store may reveal a temperament that finds calm in unnoticed work. Being greeted by name by a regular shows a wish to be seen as a person rather than a role. This is our speculation, but a name tag bearing someone else's name may signal more distance than you realise between the face your workplace demands and your true self.
