Folklore and history
White snakes serve Benzaiten and bring wealth and artistic skill; people visit her on Snake days. Iwakuni's white snakes are a national natural monument, and many places forbid harming a snake that lives in the house.
Sudden rain during haunted-spot exploration can soak a backpack full of camera gear and batteries and cause equipment trouble. A waterproof cover that wraps around the whole backpack protects everything a rain poncho alone can't reach.

This site's view
In this site's view, note where it was. At home: cherish luck already near you. By water: talent is opening. Chasing it asks whether you grip too tightly, since a divine messenger is welcomed, not caught.
Going deeper: our reading
A white snake is said to look white because its body has little pigment. Standing out in nature makes survival hard, so it is rarely encountered. That rarity and its almost glowing beauty may be why people have regarded it as sacred. Because snakes grow by repeatedly shedding their skin, they have long symbolised renewal and vitality. In this site's reading, people who dream of white snakes are often considering how to accept the parts of themselves that differ from others, the traits that make them stand out. This is our speculation, but watching a white snake quietly shed its skin reflects a heart casting off an old shell to move into a new stage. A white snake resting on your palm or shoulder suggests you are starting to embrace your difference as an irreplaceable charm rather than feeling ashamed. Treasure what makes you special, with respect.
