[Episode 20] Famitech. [Trailer]

This is the trailer for Episode 20. It covers the nine-story abandoned hotel “Hotel Famitech” along National Route 119 in Nikkō, Tochigi Prefecture.

It has a distinctive fully glass-covered exterior and is easy to spot even when just passing by. It appears to have operated as lodging, but we could not confirm specific records of its opening year, operating company or the circumstances of its closure. Most introduction articles online also describe it as “details unknown” while treating it as a haunted spot.

The trailer introduces the investigation at this ruin, said to be among the largest in Tochigi. The main episode has two parts. It appears to be private property and entry is prohibited.

What to Watch For

Before the trailer, note that the building stands along National Route 119. It is easy to see from the road, but stopping beside the road to park or take photos can obstruct traffic or cause accidents. Even if you see the building, please do not stop to look at it or go near the site. Watch with the attitude that the video is enough.

Our Take

A large building covered in glass looks imposing by day as it reflects light. But when it falls out of use and the inside of the windows goes dark, the impression reverses. Glass that once received light becomes a surface that reflects the darkness within. For that reason, we think the sense of “being watched” arises easily even from outside. This is speculation, but part of a ruin’s fear may be proportional to the degree of glamour the building once had.
