Psychology
Bamboo reflects the urge to grow straight and a wish for resilience that bends but does not break. Fast-growing bamboo foretells rapid progress; many joints reflect growth through milestones. Being in a grove adds a sense of protection.
Folklore and history
In The Tale of the Bamboo Cutter, often called Japan's oldest story, a tiny princess is found in a glowing stalk. Fast, straight and hollow, bamboo was thought to host gods and is used in New Year kadomatsu. Its rare mass flowering and die-off was once feared as an ill omen.
For spreading out gear or setting down bags on the dirty ground of a ruin or old shrine site, one waterproof ground sheet gives peace of mind. Afterward you can fold it inside-out straight into its included pouch, keeping the dirty side sealed inside for the trip home.

This site's view
In this site's view, bamboo shows strength in hollowness. Empty inside, it is light and supple, and could even hold a shining princess. Glowing bamboo means something precious is taking root in you, even if you feel empty; broken bamboo means you are forcing yourself to stay too straight.
Going deeper: our reading
At Tanabata, people tie paper strips bearing wishes to bamboo branches, perhaps because bamboo rising straight to the sky was thought to carry wishes upward. Bamboo shoots grow remarkably fast, and some kinds are said to grow close to a meter in a day. In this site's reading, people who dream of bamboo are often becoming clearly aware of a wish, or feel anxious as those around them suddenly shoot up. Tying a wish to bamboo suggests that words you have spoken are drawing closer to reality; digging up shoots, searching for talents or chances not yet visible; hearing leaves rustle in a grove, a wish to quiet a restless heart. This is our speculation, but the dream may teach that each person's pace of growth is fine as it is.
What to do on waking
