Psychology
Mud and swamps reflect being stuck and feeling murky. Legs caught in mire suggest weariness from tangled relationships or drawn-out problems. Escaping alone or being pulled out shows your path to recovery.
Folklore and history
Edo-period yokai art shows dorotabo, rising waist-deep from a ruined field crying 'give back my field', likely the grief of one who lost land he toiled over. Tales of swamp masters and kappa dragging people underwater are also widespread.
A folding utility cart for hauling heavy, bulky gear — a generator, large lights, a tripod, a full camera kit — in one trip from the parking lot to a ruin or mountain haunted spot. Its brake keeps it stable on slopes, and a 100kg load capacity lets it carry several people's gear at once.

This site's view
In this site's view, mud carries dorotabo's grief: attachment to what was taken or left undone. Digging for something in the mud means a hope you cannot yet abandon; washing the mud off means the day to let go is near.
Going deeper: our reading
Many remember playing in puddles after rain as children. To adults mud is a mess; to children it was a delightful material to shape. Indeed pottery is born from kneading and shaping clay, then firing it. Mud is dirt, yet also a foundation for making something. In this site's reading, people who dream of mud are often worn out by a stuck situation while still holding some power to create from it. Making mud balls suggests reshaping a difficult situation in your own way; forming a vessel from mud, a wish to turn hardship into something useful; laughing while covered in mud, regaining the freedom to try without fear of getting dirty. This is our speculation, but the dream may urge you to move ahead even with dirty hands.
