Psychology
Eclipses reflect fear of a trusted light being hidden and a turning point where hidden things emerge. The sun often stands for consciousness and identity, the moon for feeling and the unconscious; which one darkened shows which side of you is shaken.
Folklore and history
Eclipses were long seen as ill omens. In East Asia a celestial beast or dragon was said to devour the sun or moon, and people made noise to drive it off. Old Japanese chronicles record eclipses, and the court is said to have observed caution around them.

This site's view
In this site's view, an eclipse says the light is hidden, not gone. In the dark of an eclipse, stars unseen by day appear. Whatever you saw in the darkened sky is a truth overlooked in daily brightness; seeing the light return means the stall will not last.
Going deeper: our reading
On eclipse days people everywhere look up. During a partial solar eclipse, the dapples of light under trees are known to take the same crescent shape as the sun. In a lunar eclipse the moon does not go fully dark in Earth's shadow, often glowing a coppery red. In this site's reading, people who dream of eclipses often fear facing a big change head-on, yet sense it through small signs around them. Watching the sun shrink through viewing glasses suggests the composure to receive change from a safe distance; noticing crescent lights at your feet, feeling a distant event close to home; gazing at a red moon with someone, a bond deepened by sharing something rare. This is our speculation, but the dream may teach that hidden light is still near.
What to do on waking
Name one thing that suddenly stopped going well and ask what became visible in its shadow. Big decisions can wait until your light returns.
