Psychology
A castle stands for ideals, goals and the wish to be protected. A grand one shows confidence; being trapped behind high walls may mean your defences have become isolation.
Folklore and history
Japanese castles gained their towering keeps from the Warring States to the Edo period. They also gather ghost tales: Himeji Castle has Okiku's well and Osakabe-hime, a spirit said to dwell in its keep, and many castles carry legends of human pillars.
Summer exploration of a ruin or mountain haunted spot often means a long walk in blazing sun, with a high risk of heatstroke and dehydration. Individually wrapped salt tablets are easy to keep in a backpack for quick salt intake alongside water, and easy to have on hand while waiting in the car too.

This site's view
In this site's view, ask whose castle it was. As its lord, you are proud of what you built; gazing up, it is an ideal out of reach; a ruin means an old goal has served its purpose. The grander the castle, the more hidden labour lies beneath it.
Going deeper: our reading
Japanese castles draw the eye to their keeps, yet moats, stone walls and winding passages were designed throughout to confuse and slow attackers. Behind the beauty lay layers of defensive wisdom. In this site's reading, which part of the castle you were in shows how you are protecting your heart. Surveying the town from the top of the keep suggests a time of broad perspective and confidence in your position. Getting lost in maze-like passages or before a gate may mean you face unexpected detours as you approach a goal. This is our speculation, but gazing at the castle from beyond the moat, unable to enter, may show you building walls yourself while longing to approach an admired place or person. Stacking stones for a wall suggests the mind knows steady, unseen effort becomes a great foundation.
