Psychology

A tower stands for high aims and the loneliness that comes with them. Climbing shows ambition, the view from the top shows clarity, and being locked inside suggests your ideals or status have distanced you from others.

Folklore and history

The Tower of Babel is a tale of human pride reaching for heaven, and the Tower tarot card means sudden collapse. In Japan the five-storey pagoda houses relics and is a building of prayer, so height there speaks of faith more than power.

This site's view

In this site's view, check whether there were stairs going down. If only up, you feel you cannot turn back; seeing people below from a window means you still long for connection; a collapsing tower asks you to review what you forced into place.

Going deeper: our reading

At the top of a tall tower you can see distant mountains and sea, yet the wind is strong and voices from below barely reach you. In this site's reading, what you were doing at the top shows how you are facing your position. Enjoying distant views from an observation deck suggests a growing ability to look ahead without being caught up in the immediate. Waving to someone from above expresses a wish to keep human ties even from a high place. This is our speculation, but endlessly climbing a spiral staircase may mirror effort that seems to go in circles yet brings you higher step by step. Ringing the tower bell suggests a wish to make your ideas known widely. Descending to walk the ground signals ideals and reality coming into balance.
