Psychology
A cicada mirrors emerging after long preparation and a wish to burn through limited time. Years underground, a brief summer of song: it symbolises both reward and haste.
Folklore and history
A cicada shell, utsusemi, has long meant emptiness and the fleeting world; in The Tale of Genji a woman who slips away leaving her robe is called Utsusemi. Ancient China placed jade cicadas in the mouths of the dead to wish for rebirth.
A digital thermo-hygrometer that records temperature and humidity changes objectively — the kind behind classic accounts of "it suddenly got chilly" or "the air changed." Its large display is easy to read in a dark room, useful for fixed-point observation during exploration and adding credibility to a verification video.

This site's view
In this site's view, did you see the shell or the singer? A shell alone means farewell to an old self; a singing cicada says your long preparation is ready to be voiced; silence warns you to rest before burning out.
Going deeper: our reading
In Japan, cicada songs are said to mark how far summer has gone. The sizzling aburazemi and droning minminzemi announce high summer, the clear call of the higurashi rings at dusk, and many feel summer's end near once the tsukutsuku-boshi begins. In this site's reading, people who dream of cicadas often sense a period drawing to a close, with anxiety over unfinished things and reluctance to let time go. Being wrapped in loud calls suggests a full season of giving your all; hearing the higurashi, a wish to quietly look back on a day or season; feeling rushed by the tsukutsuku-boshi, an approaching deadline; trying to catch a cicada, a wish to hold on to a passing summer. This is our speculation, but cicada songs sounding nostalgic may reflect tenderness for the seasons you have lived.
