○ A mirror of the mind Read less as luck and more as a mirror of how you are now
Drawn to light: a symbol of risky temptation or unreachable longing.
Category: Animals (how to read this category)
Psychology
A moth mirrors temptation you know is risky and longing beyond reach. Flying to light, it symbolises irresistible urges; appearing at night, it shows wishes your daytime self denies.
Folklore and history
A proverb speaks of summer insects flying into the fire, yet the silkworm, a moth, sustained Japanese life. Some versions of the Oshira-sama belief in northeastern Japan tie the silkworm's origin to the sad tale of a girl and a horse, a tale also recorded in Tales of Tono.

This site's view
In this site's view, moths ask what the light truly is. Circling a lamp means discerning warmth from fire; emerging from a cocoon ends a long seclusion; a moth indoors may be someone's thoughts visiting in the night.
Going deeper: our reading
Butterflies and moths belong to the same order, and the line between them is said to be hard to draw. Still, we tend to see butterflies as beautiful and moths as eerie, though many moths are stunning, like the Japanese luna moth with its large pale-green wings. In this site's reading, people who dream of moths often feel they are not seen fairly, or are stuck with the worse role when compared with someone. Finding a moth's pattern beautiful suggests you are noticing your overlooked strengths; wing powder that will not rub off your fingers, traces of an event that linger; watching someone fear a moth, sadness at being misunderstood; a moth resting by the window, fondness for a companion of the night. This is our speculation, but the dream may teach that names and looks do not decide worth.
