Psychology
Ice reflects frozen emotions or a stalled situation; sometimes we freeze feelings to protect ourselves. Walking on cracking ice suggests an unstable position; melting ice means stiff relationships are starting to thaw.
Folklore and history
On Lake Suwa in Nagano, the ridge of ice pushed up in winter is called omiwatari, the path of a god crossing to visit a goddess, and its shape is still used to divine the year. Storing winter ice in icehouses to offer in summer is also an old custom.
Five 100% cotton face towels vacuum-compressed to palm size for disaster prep — they stay clean for a long time unopened, so keeping a pack in the car is handy for wiping off sweat and grime in a dusty ruin, and doubles as an emergency bandage, blindfold, or makeshift ground sheet for warmth.

This site's view
In this site's view, ice can show a path open only when frozen, like the god's crossing. Clear, beautiful ice means your present calm is a strength; something trapped beneath means a feeling you are trying to forget by freezing it.
Going deeper: our reading
Ice is cold to the touch, yet it slowly melts in a tight grip. Shaved ice in summer and cubes clinking in a glass link it with coolness and fun. In this site's reading, people who dream of ice are often used to holding back feelings and acting calm, while hiding a wish for someone to melt that coolness. Walking on a frozen lake suggests the tension of moving carefully in a relationship; hearing ice crack, fear that your composure may break; sharing shaved ice with someone, a cooled relationship softening through good times; watching ice melt in your palm, a growing ability to change things with your own warmth. This is our speculation, but if beauty rather than cold stayed with you, you may be starting to accept your calm as a strength.
What to do on waking
Savour a hot drink or soup and warm your hands and feet before starting the day. Emotional stiffness eases along with the body.

Drinks and food left in the car warm up fast during a summer car-camping exploration, so an ice pack in a cooler bag helps. This standard model claims about 8 times the cooling power of an ordinary ice pack, and freezes quickly enough to prep the night before.
