Psychology
A telescope brings the far near, so it stands for goals, longing and the unreachable. A sharp view means clarifying aims; blur means vague ideals, or neglecting what is at your feet.
Folklore and history
In the early 1600s Galileo turned a telescope to the sky and saw the moon's craters and Jupiter's moons — heaven examined by human eyes. In dreams, it hints at foresight or news from afar.

This site's view
In this site's view, it depends what you watched. Stars or mountains are longing; a neighbour's window means comparing your life to others. Being looked back at is your own gaze reflected.
Going deeper: our reading
Starlight seen through a telescope left its star years, sometimes thousands of years, ago. A telescope looks far away but also receives light from the past. In this site's reading, telescope dreams can carry not only longing for the future but thoughts of a distant past self or someone you can no longer meet. Feeling nostalgic while stargazing may mean you want to make peace with your past before picturing what comes next. While you look through one eye, the surroundings vanish. If you peered on and on, then looked up to find yourself somewhere unfamiliar, chasing a far goal may be leaving the people nearby behind. Taking turns with family or friends suggests relationships where dreams can be shared. This is our speculation, but repeatedly adjusting the focus is a hopeful kind of hesitation, tracing your goal's outline yourself.
What to do on waking
Look at the far sky for a minute today. Resting eyes tired of near things makes distant goals clearer.
